Mike The Tiger
- 41 photos
- The tradition of Mike the Tiger began in 1936 when LSU students raised $750 to purchase a Bengal tiger from the Little Rock, Ark. zoo to have a live mascot corresponding with the football team's nickname.
The tiger was "Mike" to honor Mike Chambers, the LSU athletics trainer at the time.
Mike I lived for 20 years and, to date, is the longest lived in the line of "Mikes."
Mike VI is the current mascot and lives in state-of-the-art habitat north of Tiger Stadium.
